About the role

The Service Engineer will be responsible for tapchanger service and refurbishment, working in live HR environments within the UK and Ireland electrical supply industry and the workshop. There will be an element of overseas  tapchanger service and refurbishment required on an irregular basis.

 

Tasks

While the exact tasks of the role will depend on your experience, you would be working on the following areas:

  • In-house and on-site refurbishment of tapchangers
  • On-site inspections and maintenance of tapchangers
  • In-house maintenance of Medium Voltage Regulators
  • In-house preparation of spare part assemblies and spare parts kits
  • Supporting other Fundamentals group activities that could include working on other brands of tapchangers and/or AVC installation work
  • Representing Ferranti Tapchangers Limited and the group on customer’s sites and/or premises
  • Working independently or in a team to address technical issues
  • Interact with others in the business to resolve delivery/installation problems

 

Requirements

A relevant NVQ or similar qualification in a related area, or equivalent experience in a similar role

Good general knowledge and application of mechanical fitting skills

Good knowledge and understanding of Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality processes

Knowledge of mechanical engineering theory and electrical engineering theory

 

The following aren’t essential but would be a plus

Knowledge of the assemble and operation of tapchangers

Experience of working within the power industry

Ability to write method statements and risk assessments
